REMINDER*** the JInitiator and MarkView software are NOT required for end users who have access ONLY to the Requisitioner responsibility in BEN Financials (i.e., to shop in the Penn Marketplace).

Desktop Installations

Browser Configuration
- When configuring browsers to use BEN Financials, please remember to set the browser cache to "every time".
- In IE 6.0 SP1:
- Click "Tools" from the options menu and select "Internet Options"
- Under the section titled: "Temporary Internet Files", click the "Settings" button
- Under the section titled: "Check for newer versions of stored pages:", select the "Every visit to the page" option
- Click OK
- Click OK
- Under the section titled: "Advanced" , In the Browsing Section
- Check "Disable script Debugging"
- Uncheck "Display a notification about every script error"
- Uncheck "Show Friendly HTTP Error messages"
- In the Security Section
- Check "Use SSL 2.0"
- Check "Use SSL 3.0"
- Check "Use TLS 1.0"
- Run the XP SP2 configuration utility on new systems.

Note: Currently, there are no special browser settings in order for MAC users to access BEN Financials.
Install JIniator 1.3.1.21
- Obtain a copy of the JInitiator 1.3.1.21 installer via a download by entering the following URL http://www.upenn.edu/computing/software/provider/ben/oajinit_13121.exe in Internet Explorer’s Address field or click here to initiate the download. You will be prompted to enter your PennKey ID and password before the downloading begins.
- Close any unnecessary applications and accessories.
- Run the JInitiator executable ("oajinit_13121.exe") saved in step 1.
- Click Next twice and use all the default options/locations.
Click OK on the Installation Complete Message box. Ensure that the DOS window completes normally. If you need to force the DOS window to quit, then there may have been a problem with the install. Uninstall and start again, making sure you have deleted all the necessary files and have closed any unnecessary applications via the task manager.
Install ChemDraw (Optional)
- In IE, go to Tools > Internet Options > Select the Advanced Tab > Scroll down to Security (the last group)
- Uncheck the "Do not save encrypted pages to disk" option. This is the fourth option from the top.
- Open an Internet Explorer Browser window.
- Enter the following URL http://benapps.isc-seo.upenn.edu
- Select BEN Financials
- Login to BEN Financials using the LSP46 user ID & password (ID & password are the same)
- Select the Requisitioner responsibility
- Select Home Page
- Select Shop at Penn Marketplace
- Click on Advance Search tab
- Click on Chemicals
- Click on Proceed to Substructure Search
- You will see an alert saying that the CS ChemDraw ActiveX control is not installed, and offering to install it.
- Click OK. This will take you to the CambridgeSoft home page where you will need to log in.
- If you are not a registered user, click on Become A Member to register.
- You will have to register with a username, password & email address. You will be prompted with 3 more windows. Enter information as appropriate. This takes 2-3 minutes
- Click Download when prompted to download ChemDraw ActiveX/Plugin Net 7.0 Download Edition Windows Download.
- Save the cdpn701.exe file to the C Drive.
- Click Open Folder when prompted.
- Once logged into the CambridgeSoft plugin page, click the Install button.
- Follow the prompts. It takes about 3 minutes to install the plugin.
Install JRE for MarkView
- LSP needs to be logged on to computer as Administrator
- Ensure that the Pop-Up Blocker is not activated
- Remove JRE 1.3.1_05, if it is currently installed, by clicking on Start>Settings>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs
- Click to highlight - Java 2 Runtime Environment Standard Edition v1.3.1_05
- Click on the Change/Remove button
- At prompt, click on the Yes button to the Java Runtime Environment (to remove) pop-up box
- At prompt, click on the OK button to the Java Runtime Environment (successfully uninstalled) pop-up box
- In Internet Explorer, Select Tools> Internet Options >Click the Security Tab> Highlight the Internet icon > Select "Custom Level".
- Under the 'Active X controls and plug-ins' heading, set the 'Download Unsigned ActiveX Controls' radio button to Prompt. Click OK, OK, Yes when prompted.
- Close all Internet Explorer windows.
- From the start menu, select Run.
- Type "cmd" in the text box labeled "Open" and Click OK
- Type "java-version" at the DOS prompt (no quotes)
- The first line returned will be the java version"x.x.x_xx" [where x's are numbers.]
- If you have version 1.3.1_09 or later then you have completed the installation of the files for MarkView 4.8.1.2.
- If you have a version other than version lower than 1.3.1_09, THEN you will have to uninstall it.
- From Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs, highlight for Java 2 Runtime Environment Standard Edition [version number returned in step above]
- Click Change/Remove button.
Proceed to next step for instructions on installing the correct version of the JRE.
- If you do not have any version of java on the PC indicated by the following system response ('java' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file) or you removed a version of the JRE in the previous step, THEN you will have to install it.
- Download the JRE (vsn 1.4.2_02) and save it to the temp directory on the local hard. To download, enter the following URL http://www.upenn.edu/computing/software/provider/ben/j2re-1_4_2_02-windows.exe in Internet Explorer’s Address field or click here to initiate the download. You will be asked to enter your PennKey ID and password before the download begins
- Navigate to the temp directory and execute the j2re-1_4_2_02-windows.exe file by double clicking on it.
- Click Yes on the License Agreement Window.
- Click Next on the Choose Default Destination Location.
- Check the Microsoft Internet Explorer box on the Select Browser window and click Next.
- The window will close when the installation is complete.
- You have completed the installation of files for MarkView 4.8.1.2.
Litmus Test for JInitiator 1.3.1.21 & MarkView 4.8.1.2
Part 1:
- LSP needs to be logged on to computer as Administrator
- Using Internet Explorer, go to the following URL http://benapps.isc-seo.upenn.edu.
- Select BEN Financials.
- Login to BEN Financials using the LSP48 user ID & password (ID & password are the same).
- Select the LSP Testing responsibility.
- Select Invoices & follow the steps below to execute the Litmus.
- On the security certificate warning for the JInitiator, accept the certificate by clicking on "Grant Always". (There may be2 of these warning messages).
- The "Find Invoices" form will appear.
- On the "Find Invoices" form, enter IN632 for the Invoice Number and click Find. This takes you to the "Invoice Detail" form that corresponds to the invoice number.
- On the "Invoice Detail" form, click on the paper clip (Fourth icon from the right, when you move the mouse over it says "attachments"). This takes you to the MarkView logon screen. Login using the same user ID / password.
- A browser session with a broken icon would show up. A Security dialogue box shows up asking for permission to the download JRE executable. Select YES to start the install.
- Click YES to accept the license agreement.
- Click NEXT to accept the default install location.
- Click NEXT to accept the default browser for Java Plugin Installation.
- Accept the certificate for "Grant always" and complete the installation.
- In Internet Explorer, select Tools> Internet Options. Click on the Security Tab, and then click on "Custom Level". Under 'Download Unsigned ActiveX Controls' select the disable button.
- LSP needs to log off of computer
Part 2:
Note: The end user needs to be present to log on to the computer because the install requires user authentication.
- The End User needs to log on to the computer. Once the end user has logged on, the LSP needs to log in to the application as LSP48 (using the same URL as in Part1), select LSP Testing.
- Select Invoices and follow the steps below to execute the Litmus test.
- The "Find Invoices" form will appear.
- On the "Find Invoices" form, enter IN632 for the Invoice Number and click Find. This takes you to the "Invoice Detail" form that corresponds to the invoice number.
- On the "Invoice Detail" form, click on the paper clip (Third icon from the right, when you move the mouse over it says "attachments"). This takes you to the MarkView logon screen. Login using the same user ID / password.
- Accept the certificate for "Grant Always" and complete installation.
