[ Searching BEN Knows ]
BEN KNOWS has been designed to allow you to search for possible solutions to your BEN
Financials and BEN Reports questions using keywords. It uses the Alta Vista search engine to let you
search the BEN Knows site ONLY.
The Basics
BEN Knows allows you to search the website for possible solutions by entering a keyword, or several
keywords, into the Search BEN Knows box (located at the top of the page). Keyword searches should be entered using lower-case.
This will allow the search engine to look for any instance of the term, ignoring case. If you use mixed case or all caps, the search engine
will look for that exact format of the keyword(s) entered. Your search results will list all possible solutions on the BEN Knows site that
contain the keyword(s) you entered.
For example:
If you enter the keyword "Budget" into the Search BEN Knows box, your search results will list all the solutions
on the BEN Knows site that contain the word "Budget OR budget".
If you enter the keyword "BUDGET" into the Search BEN Knows box, your search results will return the following message:
"No documents match the query" if the word "BUDGET" is not found. Re-enter your query by entering the keyword in lower-case.
When searching BEN Knows, there are a few tips to keep in mind. As follows:
- Common words such as "to" and "the", as well as certain single digits and single letters are ignored.
- There is no need to include "and" or "," between keywords.
- The order of the keywords you use will affect the search results.
- To restrict a search further, just include more keywords or be more specific.
- "Wildcard (%)" searches are NOT supported.
Multiple Keyword Searches
If you enter the keywords "Encumbrance Journals" into the Search BEN Knows box, your search results
will list all the solutions on the BEN Knows site that contain the word "Encumbrance" and the word "Journals".
If you enter the keywords "Notes OR Attachments" into the Search BEN Knows box, your search
results will list all the solutions on the BEN Knows site that contain the either word.
Keyword Exclusion Searches: If you want to search for solutions about reports BUT do not want
solutions that contain information about the 104.ORG report, you must enter the keywords "Reports -104.ORG".
By placing a minus sign ("-") immediately in front of the keyword you want to exclude, the keyword is
avoided in the search. TIP: Be sure to include a space before the minus sign.
Phrase Searches: If you enter the keywords "Invoice Holds" (and enclose them in double
quotation marks " "), your search results will list all the solutions that contain the phrase "Invoice Holds".
