Policy

In general, any University agent acting in the interests of the University, including trustees, faculty, staff or other entity, may accept gifts to the University. The following types of gifts, however, have special acceptance procedures:

  • Gifts of securities, equipment bonds and royalties must be approved by the Office of the Treasurer.
  • Gifts of real estate must be reviewed through the Office of Gift Planning and approved by the Real Estate Gift Acceptance Committee. See Policy 2231 Gifts of Real Estate.
  • Gifts of Artwork must be approved through the Office of the Curator (which may include approval by the Art Collection Advisory Committee and the Art on Campus Subcommittee), the Office of the Treasurer and the Office of Development and Donor Relations. See the University of Pennsylvania Gifts of Art Collection Policy
  • Gifts of Service are not accepted. See Policy 2205 Gifts of Specialized Services.

It is the responsibility of the Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) representative to inform the appropriate offices of all contributions. If the agent is not a DAR representative, then Gifts Accounting and Administration should be notified as soon as possible.

See Policy 2202 Gift Receipts for information about how gifts should be receipted.
