[ BEN Financials ]
BEN Financials is the University's graphical, web-based core financial management information system. Its three major components – BEN Assets, BEN Buys, BEN Pays, and BEN Balances -- provide purchasing, accounts payable and general ledger capabilities, respectively.
Implemented in January, 2002, as a major upgrade to the character-based FinMIS system (introduced in 1996), BEN Financials, like its predecessor, is based on Oracle Corporation's general ledger, purchasing, assets and accounts payable software coupled with Oracle's relational database management system.
New capabilities introduced with the 2002 upgrade include electronic requisitions and a business-to-business electronic exchange known as the Penn Marketplace, where users can select products and services from online catalogs customized for Penn. These capabilities are provided by Internet Procurement requisitioning software from Oracle and catalog content management services from SciQuest.
The easy-to-use requisitioning capability has enabled a subset of purchasing functions to be extended beyond the original FinMIS user community. Faculty and staff are now eligible to access BEN Financials to search for items in the Penn Marketplace and create electronic requisitions. To obtain access to BEN Financials, please consult your departmental Business Administrator or the senior business officer in your School or Center. If access is needed, all employees must complete the required training and complete a BEN Financials Access Request eForm.
