[ Gifts Accounting & Administration ]
Gifts Accounting & Administration is responsible for the timely and accurate
recording, depositing and accounting for all donations and pledges to Penn. In addition to accounting
for gifts at the time of a pledge, Gifts has ongoing responsibility to monitor the gift payment flows
and to provide management information on gifts to representatives of both the Finance and
Development offices.
There are two primary functional units within Gifts - Cash Gifts Accounting & Administration and
Securities Gifts Accounting & Administration. Cash Gifts Accounting & Administration receives gifts via
check, credit card, lockbox and in-kind. It is responsible for ensuring that all methods of giving are
efficient and in compliance with our fiduciary duties. Gifts tracks and records bank wires which are
directed to us from Cash & Liability Management. Cash Gifts Accounting & Administration serves as a liaison with
Development and school/center representatives in processing gifts and transmittal training. Representatives
of the Cash Gifts area are on hand to assist with any questions regarding gifts to Penn.
Securities Gifts Accounting & Administration
serves to manage the University's security gifts in a prudent and efficient manner. Gifts of appreciated
securities can be a tax efficient means for individuals to donate to Penn. Securities Gifts has responsibility
for the acceptance, retention or liquidation of all security gifts to the University of Pennsylvania. All inquiries
about security gifts should be directed to this office. Securities Gifts values the gift, properly allocates the gift and
proceeds according to the donor's wishes, and acknowledges the gift to the donor by receipt.
