Fundamentals of Driver Safety

Who Should Register

This course is required for any individual (employee, faculty, or student) who may drive a University owned or leased vehicle (including low-speed vehicles, such as golf carts) as part of their job duties. This extends to those individuals who may rent a vehicle for use on University business.

Certain employees (e.g. Penn Police) are exempt from this requirement due to other driver safety training they are required to attend.

Please note:  Before you can drive a vehicle on behalf of the University you must successfully complete the on-line course(s). Compliance with these requirements is mandatory.  Failure to do so may result in:

  • Removal of driving privileges
  • Unreimbursed rental car expenses
  • 100% of vehicle repair costs by the department in the event of an accident

Completion Requirements

  • Successful completion of all course modules.

Note that University Policy 2607.1:

  • Restricts against the rental of 15-passenger vans for any purpose.
  • Requires recertification of the driver safety training every 3 years.
